Back in Medici days, Rome had dozens of distinct neighborhoods - true multiculturalism. The Florentines had their neighborhood in Rome, the Neapolitans theirs, etc. And every neighborhood was distinct - some clean, some filthy; some ordered, some raucous. What the left wants is all of that - but in a blender, to get rid of any differences. The end of multiculturalism and of culture itself.
New York is still like this to an extent.
Little Italy and Chinatown are not just tourist traps.
There are many distinct neighborhoods in the boroughs, and they exist nicely together.
